ASL Numbers Guide

Essentials for reading and producing numbers accurately.

Core Tips

  • 1–5 Orientation: Palm often faces inward for numbers 1–5 in many contexts.
  • 6–9 Thumb-Finger Contact: Note which finger touches the thumb (6=thumb-pinky through 9=thumb-index).
  • 10: A-hand with small shake.

Phone Numbers and Sequences

Group digits in familiar patterns (e.g., 3-3-4) and keep a steady pace. Recognition improves when chunking is consistent.

Practice Ideas

  1. Read two random 7-digit sequences daily and write them down.
  2. Alternate between slow and timed recognition to build speed.
  3. Mix numbers with letter drills to simulate realistic inputs.
